Did a lot more cutting yesterday on the roof and the shell. Trimmed the roof length about 7-1/4 inches. I think I need to take another inch and a quarter out still.
Structure of the roof and the curve of the roof is pretty close, it might be a little bit too narrow though. I’ll be able to fix that pretty easily with a little sheet metal.
Fitments (please excuse the potato pics... I need a better potato and better lighting).
I still need to move it forward 1-1/4 and settle the rear down some. It will be fairly close to the window line.

As far as I know, pioneering this one. Cutting up the parts shell to get everything fitted up, then I have to decide if I’ll use the shell or transfer everything to the red miata.

thanks, so am I. It’s coming together a little better than I expected in some ways, but not as good and easy as I hoped. Just like any other car project pretty much.

I thought about making it a targa. I like the idea of a full fixed roof for now. I’ve gotten a lot of comments from friends to the effect of “oh you’re making it a convertible? ‘no, I’m doing the opposite...’ why???”

Well glad to hear it’s not all uphill struggle.
What's your plans for the window gap? Also, are you going to cut away the rear deck underneath the hatch?

I’m going to use pinch weld weather stripping after I build the material out. or possibly just weather stripping.
I won’t cut the rear deck until I’ve got additional bracing in place (the roof and maybe a rear deck bar). I don’t plan on moving the fuel tank from the stock location so some of the structure will remain for that.

Yeah that’s what I was going to say, might want to brace the roof structure a bit before cutting out the deck panel.
What's the purpose for this car? Interesting driver? LeMons car? Curiosity?

Ooh now that’s a cool thought :) Renesis maybe? It’ll be expensive to run, but not as much as the 200kg heavier RX-8.
Does the V6 fit? They're great engines too :)

Both fit, about the same amount to clearance each one too. I was thinking a 4 port 13bT would be a lot of fun in the MX4.
But the KLG4 V6 would be more true to the merging of the MX3 and the MX5. Plus they sound so great with ITBs and rev so happily.

Yeah the little Mazda V6s are great engines. Is it going to be a daily? If so then the V6 might be the better all-round choice, although not quite as cool as the rotary...

Right now I daily a 1 series, but I’ve been thinking of selling it off to carmax to lower my insurance and be rid of the payment. I’ve got an 85 FB RX7 (12a has some issues right now, hopefully ignition related), a gray market euro diesel 323, and the $500 Miata (beat and runs poorly) and the white shell. The way it sits my DD for non winter is the diesel 323, winter car is the 1 series lol. But it could easily turn into the $500 miata for the winter.
